Biblical Counseling EQ

This book will answer your deepest questions about emotions in the Christian life – from a biblical and Christ-centered perspective. How can I bring my emotions under control? Did Jesus have emotions? Are my emotions important to God? Is it really possible to know true peace? How come some Christians have a glow about them? Why am I always afraid? Some people seem so masterful; how do they do that? Why did Jesus’ weep? Where do emotions come from? How can I express

Counseling Recipes

In the accounts of God’s faithfulness, in so many practical ways, Dr Timothy Tow relates them all to Scripture. He points out that the minister who rightly counsels is himself counseled daily in God’s Word. He states, “I merely point every client to the Counselor of counselors (Isaiah 9:6) even our Savior Jesus Christ, and to His Holy Spirit…” Again Dr Tow states, “As counselor our job is simply to bring our patients to Christ the Living Word. It is He who prescribes to us the treatment or recipe.”

Building Your Church through Counsel and Care

One of the best definitions of a leader is “someone who is willing to take responsibility for someone else.” Lots of people want to absolve themselves of responsibility for anyone but themselves (and some try to dodge even that).

But Christians who’ve heard the call of God know that ministry is about caring for others. “Care” isn’t just an emotion, a warm feeling toward people in general, or affection for a few individuals. No, care implies making sure that basic needs are met.  Pastoral care means taking responsibility for the spiritual wellbeing of a group. The “pastoral epistles” is filled with the apostle Paul’s instructions about caring for the flock—details of organization and administration are part of it, but the emphasis is on sound counsel (through personal conversation and through teaching and preaching) and effective care. The purpose: cultivating mature Christian character

Child Abuse

This book deals with the various problems, their ramifications, and the support to our children. It is our responsibility to protect our children from predators. Our children are gifts from the Lord. The disciples came to Jesus, saying, “Who is the greatest in the kingdom of heaven?” “Jesus called a little child unto him and set him in the midst of them, and said, ’verily I say unto you, except ye be converted, and become as a little children, ye shall not enter the kingdom of heaven” (Matt. 18:2–3).

Rev. Gordon has spent time to explain the importance of protecting our children; protecting our children is protecting our society. It is very dangerous and costly not doing so. Our society is suffering because of this chronic problem, which parents and the governments refuse to deal with in the proper way; therefore, we as parents must take up this problem at hand before it reaches to genocide.

The Counselor professional doctorate

How can counselors be therapeutic persons and model awareness and growth for their clients? In thinking about counselors who are therapeutic, I have isolated a cluster of personal qualities and characteristics. I do not expect any therapist to fully exemplify all these traits. Rather, for me the willingness to struggle to become a more therapeutic person is the crucial quality. This list is intended to stimulate you to examine your ideas of what kind of person can make a significant difference in the lives of others.  Effective counselors have an identity. They know who they are, what they are capable of becoming, what they want out of life, and what is essential. They respect and appreciate themselves. They can give help and love out of their own sense of self-worth and strength.  They are able to recognize and accept their own power. They feel ad equate with others and allow others to feel powerful with them.

Parent And Parenting

Parenting On Purpose will lay a foundation that can provide for better and more informed choices. However, ultimately, children will eventually exercise their God given right to choose. Now a look at the foundations. Children do change our lives. They change our lives dramatically because of the very nature that children have, which is one of total dependence upon us to care for them. Most of us know, from a serious viewpoint, that it is a great privilege to have children and a   privilege to  raise them. It is a wonderful thing to see your children succeed, grow and hopefully become better than what you ever dreamed you could become. Most parents I talk with have great dreams and hopes for their children. Unfortunately, children have their own agenda, and at times can stray in unpleasant even dangerous directions.

Crisis Counseling

In our world today, faith-based crisis counseling is unfortunately misunderstood and underutilized and during times of grief, apprehension, violence, disasters and terrorism. Faith based crisis counseling has primarily been associated with church attendance. Many have the misconception that if they don’t attend or belong to a specific church, counseling is not available.  Faith based crisis counselors who become part of the survival process far out reach that concept today.  Faith based crisis counselors potentially provide much needed support in times of crisis and disaster to anyone who needs it, whether they are part of the same faith or not.

Christian and Psychology & Basic Counseling

The word itself means the study of the soul. Minirth and Meier give a broader definition in their Introduction to Psychology and Counseling, ”Psychology is the scientific study of the behavior of organism. Basically psychologists try to find out what makes people tick and how their minds work. Psychology might be thought of as the study of how living creatures are able to interact with their environment and each other, and how they cope successfully or unsuccessfully with that environment” (p. 15). In other words, psychology is the study of how people live, why they do what they do and what can be done to help them live better ,’Christian’ psychology are fast approaching the status once reserved  for Scripture. Yet, it is important that we analyze that movement in the light of the Word.

Counseling and Family Violence

This manuscript is written for those preparing themselves for effective service in ministry or for personal growth and understanding.  This material is meant to be used with the companion study guide.  The focus is to first present the various facts and figures, and to lay out a plan for intervention with families caught in the web of violence.

Secondly, in the section on victims and victimizers, the dynamics of abuse in various areas is fully detailed.  Finally, the section on treatment and recovery details the process of change that most people, perpetrators and victims, can successfully experience with God’s power and good clinical wisdom.  It is my hope that the reader will grow as he/she processes through the material.

PM 302—Mastering Pastoral Counseling

There is likely no stickier area of pastoral ministry than counseling. Traps abound. Mistakes will be made. The counseling pastor is in great demand today. How can a devoted pastor combine Biblical teaching with the counseling touch? Archibald D. Hart, Gary L. Gulbranson, and Jim Smith combine decades of experience in pastoral counseling to give the student of a wealth of godly wisdom. “The counsel of the LORD standeth for ever…” (Psalm 33:11)
